We had a great second fall meeting this past Thursday night!! A huge thank you to Cindy Provencher for allowing us to use her beautiful homes and providing us with some delicious treats including not one, but three different dump cakes to nosh on.
This meeting was focused on Women's Health and we had Dr. Marci L. Dial, DNP, ARNP, NP-C, MSN, BSN, RN-BC, LNC (that's a lot of abbreviations) with us, who is also a Florida Epsilon, to give us a presentation and answer and of our questions.
She covered the top five women's health concerns which are (1) Heart Disease, (2) Breast Cancer, (3) Osteoporosis, (4) Depression, and (5) Autoimmune Disease. Below is what she shared with us:

One of the biggest points from the presentation is to take your own health into your own hands. Stay educated on women's health issues. Stand up and advocate for your own health. Ask for what you want. A great suggestion was to do a head to toe body examination/physical now to get a baseline of what "normal" is for yourself that way there is something to compare it too. Also, you are entitled to your medical records so don't be afraid to ask for them - you can just scan them and save them all to a flash drive to keep with you so you always have your history even if you change doctors.
Most important is that just visiting a gynecologist each year is not enough to keep yourself healthy. They do not address the entire body so be sure to continue to go (or get) a primary care physician to take care of your entire body.
Thank you so much again Marci for sharing your time and wisdom with us and answering all of our questions!
